What's in a Year? Love and Fifty and Penny Reid

It's been an entire freaking year since I've posted in this blog! So much has happened in my personal life that my blogging had to take a back seat.

HOWEVER.... there are some exciting things that have happened.  Spank and I decided to reunite in blogland and resurrect The Spank and Ginger Show, which is how this blog started.  Remember that? This reincarnation is a bit different than before. Now we do book reviews, giveaways and just do what we do best... have ridiculous conversations.

Since we are both very busy in our personal lives, we agreed we'd only blog when we felt like it; Review the books we wanted to review, give away the books we wanted to give away and have the discussions we wanted to have, WHEN we wanted to have them.  No more Monday-Friday posting for us! We are older and wiser now.  Or at least older.

So go on over to The Spank and Ginger Show and check us out! Sign up to get our posts in your email box so you don't miss our randomly-timed postings. (also, don't forget to "like" our FB page, as we do post on there almost daily. Link provided HERE.

So what's going on with me?  Well, I recently attended Indie Authors Appreciation Week, hosted by the amazing Carmilla Voiez.  I was able to meet and talk to a number of authors, make new friends, and participate in online games and giveaways.  I even won a few free books! I can't wait to start reading my new books as soon as I get back from this....

Next month I'm going to Sacramento to attend the "Love and Fifty" Book Signing Event.  What's that?  Well, a bunch of authors (see above picture) are getting together, along with some of their their hunky cover models.  There will be hors' douvres and cocktails and perhaps mayhem. The authors will be chillin' with their readers, giving out swag, signing books, and at the end, we (authors and readers) will all go see the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, since it will be opening night.

Spank and I will review that movie after I get back. She read the book and can't wait to see the movie. I DIDN'T read the book and am not so excited about the movie.  Therefore it should be an awesome review between the two of us!  I actually bought myself one of these, and when you push it, it's a man's voice saying, "No".  I think I'll bring it to the movie and press the button whenever things get a little freaky with Christian Grey. I'm sure all the other movie goers will appreciate it.

What is REALLY calling me to this book signing?  Why, my favorite author, Penny Reid!  I've read books from several of those authors on the list, books that I've 5 starred, but only one author can get me to drive 6 hours to an event... the one, the only PENNY REID.  (Supreme Ruler Of The Universe)

So far, she's got these books out, and if you haven't read them, you need to read them right now. Yes, right now.

Series Order:Neanderthal Seeks Human: A Smart Romance (Knitting in the City) (Volume 1)
Neanderthal Marries Human: A Smarter Romance (Knitting in the City #1.5)
Friends Without Benefits: An Unrequited Romance (Knitting in the City) (Volume 2)
Love Hacked: A Reluctant Romance (Knitting in the City) (Volume 3)
Beauty and the Mustache: A Philosophical Romance (Knitting in the City Book 4)

Also... you need to
Follow Penny's Newsletter:

(I'm subscribed to many author's newsletters, but Penny's newsletter blows all the others out of the water! Like a shark!)

And... The Hooker and the Hermit (a collaboration between Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway) will be released Feb. 5 and I cannot WAIT to read it!

You want to know the best part about this upcoming signing? Penny is expecting me, and there are plans for taking self-deprecating selfies with us and some other peeps.  This has epic written all over it. I will be rooming with a girl I've never met before, but she seems very nice. We've been chatting online a bunch since we decided to share a hotel room. Just in case she has any homicidal tendencies, her name is Cyndi.  That is, if I'm killed in my sleep, tell whoever needs to be told that Cyndi did it. I mean, Cyndi is super nice and a great online friend, and I can't wait to meet her in person and give her a big hug!  Plus, I took a self-defense course once and am pretty sure I can take her.

You better believe I'm going to blog about this event, right here, when I get back.  This is too big to keep to myself. There will be pictures, there will be dialog, and there will be inside information spilled. So don't forget to check back after Valentine's Day weekend + a few days to recover, for the "Love and Fifty" post. Provided Cyndi doesn't kill me in my sleep.

  2. Yay! Make sure to get pics with the hunky cover models!!!! It would be worth the trip just for that! :) I just started the 50 shades books. And by "just started" I mean that I read the first two in just a few days and have already started the 3rd one. No, they aren't great, but I am into the characters and am now actually interested in seeing the movie. In fact, it's my friend insisting that I go see the movie with her that got me to finally read them. If only "Christian" would use his real life Irish accent....hmm, I love a man with an Irish accent! Have fun and can't wait to see pics and read about your adventure! :)

  3. Is Penny in a superhero cape? I am slowly getting started on her Knitting in the City series and I loved the first book!

I can't wait for the movie review collab! (and to hear about your adventures with the NO! button. I, too, am sure fellow moviegoers will appreciate the added performance your noisy button will add!) I specifically would like to know if the screenwriter managed to get rid of all of the instances of the word "clamber" that littered the "novels." I suppose so, since it is a verb. But if there's a lot of inner dialogue on Ana's part, who knows?
