Trick or treating Tuesday to you all, my little Gingersnaps. How many of you are recovering from sugar comas? Since we made a last minute decision to stay in Hawaii and the kids' costumes were still in LA, I stopped at a drug store and picked up a couple of bags of candy for the kids. They'll just have to restrict their growth & wear their costumes next year. So what did we do today? We drove to the other side of the island and went to the Volcanoes National park, ignoring signs like this...

And ignoring park rangers wearing this:
to bring you pictures like this:
and this:
If that's not dedication to my readers, I don't know what is.
Then we took the kids and walked all over a dried lava bed. Do you know what happens when lava hits a tree? A lava tree forms.
Here's my other boy, surfing the lava wave...
and... my Lavagirl!
And here's all three together...
Quick, an artistic shot!!!
So this is what happens when Mother Nature decides to smack mankind in the face...
Last but not least, I found a patch of really, really young lava.
1974 was a good year. And to end the evening, we stopped at a restaurant for dinner on the way home, where I had a "Lava Flow" to drink. It was not fiery but was instead full of coconut & strawberry goodness.
Tomorrow... a two hour helicopter tour over the volcanoes and island. Until then, everyone.... Mahalo!
